PCDI career retreat for postdocs

Date:

Location:

Kapellerput, Heeze, The Netherlands

You already excel as a researcher, but do you also excel as a scientist?

Becoming successful in your work involves so much more than winning grants and building a strong publication record. Ever wondered how to exert influence or be more effective in your work? How to position yourself and make use of your talent in a wider context? What is expected of you as a PhD in the world of today? What professional opportunities there are and the differences between working in industry, academia and non-profit? At the PCDI Retreat you will learn how to take your PhD to the next dimension!
On this 3-day course you will:

  • Learn what your talents are
  • Improve your transferable skills at the training workshops
  • Attend inspiring seminars by successful PhDs in and outside academia about e.g. leadership, valorisation, scientific integrity and work-life balance
  • Discuss with key players in the field how to position yourself as a scientist at university and in a wider context at the forum
  • Network with dozens PhDs to gain insights into working for or with the industry, as an entrepreneur or in non-profit
  • Find out what is important to you, how to get the best out of your talent and use the opportunities available to you

No matter whether you have a career in academia or elsewhere in mind, at the PCDI Retreat you will learn how to increase your chances of success. This 12th edition specifically targets researchers in STEM (Science,Technology, Engineering, Maths) and takes place during the last three days of October 2014.

PCDI organises this course to increase the awareness of the capacities and professional opportunities of postdocs and final year PhD students. The course has previously been attended by more than 1000 early career scientists, including researchers from abroad. Curious to know what fellow scientists learned at the PCDI Retreat? Check the testimonials by former retreat participants on their website (also for more information on the programme and registration): www.pcdi.nl

Is your postdoc research funded by FOM? Please note that FOM will cover the fee for this event. For more information, please contact Lydia van der Vlist: lydia.van.der.vlist@fom.nl
