Tjerk Oosterkamp's (Leiden) and Lieven Vandersypen (Delft) are each to receive an ERC Starting Grant from the European Research Council. Their suggestions and those of around 300 others were chosen from more than 9000 submissions. The ERC Starting Grant is awarded every five years to researchers who lead an independent team or programme and have the potential to develop into world-class researchers.
