Maarten Kruithof has discovered how chromatin, a complex of DNA and histone proteins, is able to fold and unfold in a flawless way. In his PhD thesis he shows that chromatin folds into one long, very flexible spiral. In this way DNA can be condensed, while remaining accessible for read-out. Read more (in Dutch)
