Violeta Navarro Paredes has been awarded a VENI for her research on new insights into the formation of synthetic fuel. Synthetic fuel (linear organic chains) can be produced from a mixture of CO and H2 by a catalytic chemical reaction. The purpose of this project is to investigate the molecular aspects of this reaction and how a cobalt catalyst transforms during the reaction. A recent discovery points towards the formation of graphene-material of the 2010 Nobel prize - during the reaction which opens up a new insight into this important process.
