Delft/QN PI Ronald Hanson is awarded a NWO-Vici grant of 1.5 million euros. Vici is one of the largest grants for individual scientists in the Netherlands and is part of NWO's Talent Scheme. Hanson receivs his grant for his proposal 'Internet with quantum mechanics: eavesdropping impossible!'

According to quantum theory, particles like electrons can be present in two locations at once and be entangled in such way that they lose their identities. Ronald Hanson and his team will investigate this schizophrenic behaviour over large distances and for many particles at once. This will allow fundamental questions to be answered and applications to be investigated such as communication in which eavesdropping is not possible.
