NWO-Vici grant for Lieven Vandersypen (Kavli/QN): 'Quantum simulation on a chip'

[17-02-2015]

Five physicists receive Vici grants
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded Vici grants to five physicists. The Vici grant is worth 1.5 million euros. The researchers can use their grant to set up their own line of research over a period of five years.

Lieven Vandersypen
One of these five physicists is Kavli QN/QT professor Lieven Vandersypen. With the Vici grant, Lieven will study the possibilities of quantum simulation on a chip. For materials and molecules are often too complicated to be calculated by computers, Lieven Vandersypen and his team will reproduce and measure complex materials and molecules in a lab setting, with the help of nanotechnology. They hope to acquire new insights which could lead to improved medication and cleaner technology. For more information, please visit the website of the Vandersypen Lab.
