Objectives
After the workshop, the PhD students will be able to recognize potential scientific integrity issues in their own research or in their research group, will be able to analyze these issues and to discuss them with others.
Course Description
The course consists of a workshop of four hours. The workshop starts with an introductory video in which a well-known case of scientific fraud is shown. The main part of the course consists of two or three activities, each of which focuses on a specific sub-area of scientific integrity. The activities are introduced by a presentation of a taxonomy for scientific integrity breaches. At the end of the course again an exemplary case is shown, but one that is more complicated than the introductory case, and more difficult to discern if scientific integrity was violated and by whom.
Preparation
As a preparation, students are asked to read a text on scientific integrity and the Netherlands Code of Conduct for Scientific Practice and to make an exercise on scientific integrity.
Participants
The workshop is open to all PhD students of the TU Delft. The minimum number of participants is 8, the maximum number is 12.
Registration and costs
You can register at the secretary of Philosophy. Costs are 75 euros per student excluding course materials.
