02-04-2008: 101 participants registered for Heeg II.

In 2006 the first CasimirSpring School in Heeg, organized by PhD-students for PhD-students and Postdocs (no senior staff invited), was a big success!
Its aim, to stimulate the scientific and social interaction between PhD-students from Delft and Leiden, worked very well; Heeg was a huge impulse for the personal bonds between students of different research groups and a very good way to get acquainted with the diversity of research going on in the Casimir Research School (Kavli and Leiden Physics). It also enables the personal interaction as a PhD student with leading international scientists.

In line of Heeg I (2006), we are now organizing the second Casimir Spring School in Heeg (Friesland), May 19-21, 2008.

• Introductory lecturers on 4 major research topics covered within the Casimir Research School:
  - Quantum Information - Daniel Estève
  - Physics of Nano-Devices - Thomas Ebbesen
  - Soft condensed matter - Daniel Bonn
  - Molecular Biophysics - Francois Nedelec
• Presentations by Casimir PhD-students and postdocs related to these topics
• A lecture/workshop by Bart Noordam, former director Randstedelijke Rekenkamer, now at ASMLithography, and extraordinary professor of Atomic Physics at the University of Amsterdam and together with Patricia Gosling author of "Mastering Your PhD: Survival and Success in the Doctoral Years and Beyond" (Springer 2006). They also write columns in the journal Science.
• 3 parallel poster sessions
• Challenging social activities (Friesland + Sun = Sailing)
• Great location: Heeg, Friesland, near the pittoresque city of Sneek.
• Bus transportation from Leiden and Delft provided
