Thomas Surrey from EMBL Heidelberg will give a seminar on "Biophysics of microtubules and molecular motors: from single molecules to collective behavior".
Location: Kronigzaal Time: 14:00 hrs
Abstract: The microtubule cytoskeleton is essential for the dynamic internal organization of living cells. A central question is how local interplay between the components of the cytoskeleton leads to global organization and biological function. We present experiments addressing the collective behavior of molecular motors and dynamic microtubules at different levels of complexity. We explore systems ranging from a small number of purified molecules to entire mitotic spindles in cell extract.
