International Doctoral Training Session - Frontiers of condensed matter - with lectures on Quantum thermodynamics, Topological phases, Quantum transport, Nanomechanics, Transport in hybrid systems, Strongly correlated systems.
Where: Les Houches, (France)
When: September 18-29, 2017
For whom: Casimir Pre-PhD students and PhD students
Programme:
This Les Houches international doctoral training session aims at offering Master and PhD students a training program in the area of Condensed Matter Physics. It is organized jointly by the Ecole Doctorale de Physique de Grenoble (France), the Casimir Research School Delft-Leiden (Netherlands), and the Donostia International Physics Center, San Sebastian (Spain).
The program will consist of several courses. The duration of each course is 3 * 1.5 hours. The courses will be complemented by more specialized research seminars on timely topics.
During the session, there will be plenty of time for informal discussions between participants and lecturers. A poster session will be organized, including a short oral presentation at the beginning of the session enabling the participants to present their research interests to each other.
The session can host 70 participants, (including lecturers - limited by the size of the lecture hall), and is intended for experimentalists and theoreticians.
Confirmed lecturers & topics
- Quantum transport - Y. Nazarov (Delft & “chaire d’excellence” Grenoble)
- Topological phases - M. Houzet (Grenoble)
- Quantum information - Roman Orus (Mainz)
- Nanomechanics - G. Steele (Delft)
- Quantum thermodynamics - J. Pekola (Aalto & “chaire d’excellence” Grenoble)
- Strongly correlated systems - L. Fritz (Utrecht),
complemented by more specialized pedagogical seminars on timely topics, poster sessions, and discussion forums.
Confirmed seminar speakers: C. Bäuerle (Grenoble), P. Bertet (Saclay), T. Oosterkamp (Leiden), J.I. Pascual (San Sebastian), F. Pierre (Marcoussis), E. van Heumen (Amsterdam), R. Whitney (Grenoble).
Students will be lodged at the Les Houches Physics Center for the duration of the school. The cost of the session including meals and accommodation is 650€. Click here for more information.
