Open Days Program
During the Open Days, we offer selected students a two-day program to get to know our research and talk to our PhD students and group leaders (PIs). The program will consist of several interesting lectures, and we hope to also be able to offer you a number of visits to the research labs in Leiden and Delft. If you have an interest in a specific research group we will set up a meeting for you with the PI and one of their group members.

Can I join?
The Open Days are aimed at recently graduated or final-year MSc students in the fields of (Applied) Physics, Biophysics, or related topics from all across the globe. You can register for this event by filling in the form below AND sending your cv, motivation letter and grade overview to: apply@casimir.researchschool.nl. Only complete applications will be taken into consideration. The registration for this event will close on 20 May. Our selection committee will select the top-20 applicants, based on their cv, motivation letter and grade overview. On 27 May 2022 we will personally inform each applicant on the decision of the selection committee. The selected students will receive a detailed program of the Open Days.
NB: By registering for the Casimir Open Days you automatically give permission for your data to be shared with interested persons from TU Delft and Leiden University with regards to the Open Days.
Costs
The Casimir Open Days are free of charge, and include dinner and overnight stay on Monday 20 June. Participants may be eligible for travel allowance up to 200euro.
About Casimir and doing your PhD in the Netherlands.
The Casimir Research School (Casimir), established in 2004 by the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience at the TU Delft and the Leiden Institute of Physics (LION) at the University of Leiden, aims for an improved education of young researchers towards a PhD degree. Both Universities have decided to take on this demanding task jointly, which creates the opportunity for students to be exposed to a larger variety of research fields and international experts, as well as to organize jointly advanced courses and workshops. About 270 PhD students, 130 postdocs and 100 (assistant, associate and full) professors participate in our research school.
The PhD positions we offer are full-time salaried research positions. The normal duration of a PhD position in the Netherlands is four years. During your PhD research you are expected to take specialized courses and contribute to teaching. Please check our website for further information.
