Van der Waals colloquium by Jelmer Renema (University of Twente) on "Integrated photonic quantum information processing". Jelmer's lab uses unique photonic integrated circuits with advanced control electronics to investigate multiphoton quantum optics, integrated photonics, and quantum complexity.
Abstract: Quantum photonics is one of the leading approaches to large-scale quantum computing, being one of the few technology platforms that has demonstrated a quantum advantage. Integrated optics is a scalable way of creating the large-scale optical systems necessary for quantum photonics. In this talk, I will present an overview of our efforts on integrated photonic QIP, including the recent quantum advantage experiments, the world's largest quantum photonic processor, and an experiment on quantum-photo-thermodynamics.
The Joan van der Waals colloquium is an ongoing bi-weekly lecture series, organized by LION. As all speakers are instructed to give an accessible lecture for everyone, these lectures aid in getting a broader view of physics. Each colloquium is preceded by an opening act: a PhD student or postdoc from LION and a different field than the invited speaker, to give a 10-min presentation.
