Quantum Training Days on quantum bits

Date:

Time:

10:00 - 17:00 hrs

Location:

Stayokay Noordwijk

The Quantum Software Consortium (QSC) will organise the third Quantum Training Days on quantum bits on October 10 and 11 in Stayokay Noordwijk. It will be the first time that we can have a Quantum Training in person!

The lectures will be given by Arghavan Safavi-Naini (QuSoft, IoP, UvA) and Jonas Helsen (QuSoft, CWI).
In this mini course we will learn about the characterization of noise in qubits and quantum gates. We will cover:

Jonas Helsen:
1. The basics of noise in quantum computation, and different metrics (such as fidelity, diamond distance, unitarity) to quantify noise.
2. Standard characterisation protocols like state and process tomography.
3. More modern protocols such as randomized benchmarking and gate set tomography, how they solve certain problems the standard approaches have, and how to interpret their output.
4. Shadow tomography in the Huang-Kueng-Preskill sense. Why it works (even though it shouldn't) and what you can do with it.

Arghavan Safavi-Naini:
5. Trapped-ion quantum computers: what makes a good qubit, how do we address qubits, and how to make gates.
6. Quantum simulation in atomic, molecular, and optical systems.
7. Modeling experiments: open quantum systems, quantum trajectories, and phase space techniques.

On both days there will be lectures and exercises, where you can work together with the quantum students (theorists and experimentalists) from Amsterdam, Delft and Leiden.

The QSC quantum training days are free for QSC-members. Registration deadline: August 22. More information on the QSC website.
