In the last week of April, 120 of our PhD students and postdocs attended the Casimir Spring School 'Sun, Sailing and Science' in Heeg, Friesland. The keynote speakers for this seventh edition of our biennial organized school were Seth Lloyd (MIT), Wilson Poon (Univ. of Edinburgh), Jorge Cham (PhD comics), and Hagan Bayley (Univ. of Oxford).
The keynote speakers were invited by the members of our Casimir PhD Platform, who were also responsible for organizing this successful event. For the first night, the PhD Platform committee arranged six different workshops. Next to this, the PhD students and postdocs from our community actively participated in the program of the Spring School, either by presenting a poster during one of the two poster sessions or by giving a presentation during one of the lecture sessions.
This year, the prizes for best poster and best presentation were awarded by the new Casimir director Christophe Danelon to Delft/BN PhD student Kim Vendel for her poster with the title "Bottom-up reconstitution of microtubule-based cell polarity in vitro" and to Leiden PhD student Michal Pacholski for his talk "Landau levels in Weyl superconductors."
