International Doctoral Training Session - Frontiers of condensed matter - with lectures on Quantum thermodynamics, Topological phases, Quantum transport, Nanomechanics, Transport in hybrid systems, Strongly correlated systems.
Les Houches, (France)
When: August 31 - September 11, 2015
For whom: Casimir Pre-PhD students and PhD students
Programme:
This Les Houches international doctoral training session aims at offering Master and Ph.D students a training programme in the area of Condensed Matter Physics. It is organized jointly by the Ecole Doctorale de Physique de Grenoble (France), the Casimir Research School Delft-Leiden (Netherlands), and the Ecole Doctorale de Physique et d'Astrophysique (PHAST), Lyon (France), in collaboration with the Donostia International Physics Center, San Sebastian (Spain) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Karlsruhe (Germany).
The program will consist of several courses. The duration of each course is 3 * 1.5 hours. The courses will be complemented by more specialized research seminars on timely topics.
During the session, there will be plenty of time for informal discussions between participants and lecturers. A poster session will be organized, including a short oral presentation at the beginning of the session enabling the participants to present their research interests to each other.
The session can host 70 participants, (including lecturers - limited by the size of the lecture hall), and is intended for experimentalists and theoreticians.

Les Houches is a village in the Chamonix valley in the French Alps. Established in 1951, the Physics School is situated at 1150m above sea level in natural surroudings, with breathtaking views on the Mont Blanc mountain range. The Les Houches Physics School is affiliated with université Joseph Fourier (UJF) Grenoble. It is joint interuniversity facility of UJF and Grenoble-INP, supported by UJF, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the Direction des Sciences de la Matière du Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique (CEA/DSM).
Practical information
Students will be lodged at the Les Houches Physics Center for the duration of the school. Arrivals should be planned for August 31, departures for September 11. The cost of the session including meals and accommodation is 650 €, to be paid directly upon arrival at the Les Houches Center.
