Abstract:
The LHC accelerator provides beams of protons and heavy ions
at unprecedented energy. The ALICE experiment has successfully
measured its first data on heavy‐ion collisions at 2.76 TeV in
November 2010. I will present early results from these measurements on
some global properties of the collisions and in particular on studies
of elliptic flow and parton energy loss. Both the collective behaviour
of the created matter and its initial density appear to be high. I
will discuss interpretations of these early results in this new era
of quark gluon plasma research.
