The Casimir Summer School is a three-day event for Casimir PhDs and Postdocs. The program will include keynote speakers, several presentation sessions, workshops and poster sessions. More information on the school (such as the program) can be found here.

Workshops
On Tuesday August 29th, we have two workshop rounds (from 19:30-20:30h and from 20:45-21:45h). This means you will be able to participate in two workshops. As we have multiple options, you can indicate your preferences in the form below.

DEADLINE: fill in your preferences before Monday August 28th. Otherwise we will randomly assign you to two workshops.

The different options are:

1. "Entrepreneurship" by Tjerk Oosterkamp
   Description: Tjerk works in Leiden on nanoMRI, massive quantum superpositions and gravity between small masses.  These are mechanical experiments at 1mK-100mK at frequencies between 10Hz and 10kHz. He was cofounder of three spin-off companies in Leiden. Depending on your input, this could be a Q&A about Leiden-Delft startups or a workshop to experience what strategies increase your chances to get customers for a startup company.
2. "Machine learning basics for science" by Evert van Nieuwenburg
   Description: This workshop is aimed at those who would like to have an idea of what machine learning techniques exist and how they might be useful for their own projects and experiments. We will cover the very basics of supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning from a practical viewpoint. The workshop will be interactive, and you are highly encouraged to bring your own device.
3. "What to do after your PhD: opportunities in- and outside of academia" by Kirsten Martens
   Description: During this interactive workshop we will discuss strategies to find out what your own ambitions really are and what aspects of the work environment are important for your work happiness. We will discuss what steps you can take to get yourself to the right place after your PhD and what skills you can work on during your PhD to achieve this.
