Abstract:

I will describe how near-infrared (~650-950nm) light interacts with tissues and the resulting diffuse light allows us to retrieve clinically relevant information from deep (>1 cm) inside the tissues. The fundamentals of these interactions and physical models will be briefly described, followed by an outline of the instrumentation. Bulk of the talk will focus on placing this in the context of clinical studies to translate this technology from the laboratory to the bed-side.
