In February 2015, Casimir will offer a two-day course on entrepreneurship, with an interesting program on how to become an entrepreneur and how to write your business plan, for which we will invite specialists (Leiden/Delft alumni with spin off companies and other successful entrepreneurs). To prepare for this in-depth workshop, it is recommended to have already some knowledge on entrepreneurship-related issues. For this we recommend the Delft Graduate School course 'Basics of Business Model Generation', the course on 'Sustainable Entrepreneurship' or the following Leiden MSc course on entrepreneurship (it is not advisable to follow all three, they cover more or less the same topics).

Course description:

An introductory course on doing business from a physicists/astronomers perspective. This interactive course covers the different aspects to consider when you want to bring a new product or service to the market, either by starting a new company or from within an existing organization. The course addresses diverse aspects such as basic business concepts, company financials, marketing, business plans, investment proposals, value propositions, financial forecasting, intellectual property, public-private partnerships, financing, subsidies, product development and sales. A good start for physicists and astronomers that want to be involved in developing new business with your physics skills, either from within public research institutes as valorisation, from an existing organisation as business development or from your own startup company.

About the lecturer: prof. dr. Marco Beijersbergen. Marco Beijersbergen is founder and managing director of cosine. After his PhD in laser physics and optics at Leiden University in 1996, Marco recognised that there is a need for a company that offers commercial services in physics. Marco has strong interest in the physical principles behind the development of scientific and industrial instruments. He not only applies that to the benefit of his company's customers, but he also shares his views and thoughts with physics and astronomy students at Leiden University.
