'Getting to know QN' colloquium - Simon Groeblacher (QN): 'Quantum physics with massive mechanical objects'

On Wednesday, we will have Simon Groeblacher from QN give an accessible and introductory talk on macroscopic quantum mechanics and his research. Simon’s talk will kick off a new colloquium series - “Getting to know QN”  (QN has an equivalent series, “Getting to know BN”).

 

Abstract:

I will give an introduction into recent experimental efforts to observe quantum effects with mechanical systems and the prospect of probing the transition between classical and quantum physics. Most prominently, mechanical oscillators coupled to light via the radiation pressure force have emerged as a leading candidate for such experiments and for their potential use in quantum information processing.
