Abstract:
'In this talk I will argue that many of the mechanisms underlying trends and dynamic phenomena in Dutch society and the economy can be seen as taking place on networks.
Taking the spreading of covid-19 as an example, it is possible to demonstrate the networked character of society. In addition I will discuss another indicator of the speed of spreading, namely the effective reproduction number. I will discuss a non-parametric method to determine this number directly fom hospitalisation data and some of the insights this work implies which are valid more generally, i.e. also for more modelbased determinations of this indicator.'
