Van Marum colloquium by Prof.dr. Rolf Schuster from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany) on "Beyond Cyclic Voltammetry: What can we learn by measuring the reaction entropy and volume of electrochemical reactions?".

Abstract:
Electrochemical systems are usually characterized by the measurement of the relation between potential and electrochemical current, e.g., by cyclic voltammetry. Here we discuss how to determine additional thermodynamic variables like reaction entropy and volume, which provide independent, complementary information on the electrochemical processes.

We will present data on ΔRS obtained by electrochemical microcalorimetry for Na deposition from a diglyme electrolyte and on the deposition process of Cu2+ from aqueous solutions. We will also present first results of our attempts to measure ΔRV  of Cu bulk deposition and Cu UPD on Au(111) by pressure-dependent potential measurements.
