Wednesday 16 December; Delft, Charlie Marcus 'Spin qubits in GaAs and Carbon'

Date:

Time: 16:00 hrs

Location: Room E

In this talk, I will review recent results from our group on spin qubits made from gate defined few-electron quantum dots in both GaAs and Carbon nanotubes. In both systems the dephasing and spin relaxation effects of hyperfine coupling will be considered in some detail. If we interpret the zero-magnetic-field conductance peak in 13C nanotubes as a signature of hyperfine coupling cause relaxation of (real) spin, we find a surprisingly large value for the hyperfine coefficient. It may be, however, that isospin is also playing an important role, which complicates the interpretation.
