Self assembled quantum wires and device applications from the near infrared to the THz.

We present the epitaxial growth and structural characteristics of InGaAs/GaAs self assembled quantum wires grown by MBE. Their optical characteristics are discussed and compared to theory. The generation of large tunable dipole moment by optical or electrical injection is discussed and the efficient storage of excitons is presented. We also demonstrate a tunable THz absorber based on these nanostructures.
