KNAW appoints Marileen Dogterom to its board (TU Delft/Communication TNW)

[22-03-2017]

(by: TU Delft/Communication TNW) On the 1st of June, Marileen Dogterom, professor of bionanoscience at TU Delft and professor of atomic and molecular physics at Leiden University, will join the board of The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) for one day a week. The appointment term is four years. Dogterom will succeed Ben Feringa, who has completed his term.

Marileen Dogterom (1967) leads the Bionanoscience Department of the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience at TU Delft. She has also been working for Leiden University since 2000, first as extraordinary professor and later as professor. She is one of the pioneers in the field of biomolecular physics. Her research focuses on the cytoskeleton: the micro-tubes that give the cells of plants and animals their shape and mechanical function and that make it possible for cells to divide successfully. Her work is an important prelude to the development of synthetic cells. She is a member of EMBO, Academia Europaea, "Medical Delta Professor" in Leiden and Delft, and in 2013 she received an ERC Synergy Grant.
