PROGRAM

Life Sciences meets Physics with Industry workshop

Date:

Location:

the Lorentz Center@Snellius in Leiden

The 2020 edition of the Life Sciences with Industry workshop will be a hybrid choice, combining Life Sciences with Physics with Industry. This workshop will take place from 9 – 13 November. A week later another workshop will be held specifically for Physics with Industry. The location is the Lorentz Center@Snellius in Leiden. Coronavirus protection guidelines will be observed.

You will work in teams on a challenge set by a company. Each team will have to combine their academic knowledge of different life sciences, including molecular and cellular biology, biophysics, genomics, bioinformatics, statistics, systems biology, biochemistry and bioengineering. For this special 2020 edition, one of the two cases will also require knowledge of physics, meaning that the case can be approached from different perspectives. The aim of the workshop is to identify concrete, practical solutions or new insights. During the week, participants will be given support by representatives of the business world and the organizers. NWO is organizing this workshop together with the Lorentz Center.

Business cases

This year’s cases will be provided by Bejo Zaden.

Case 1: Non-destructive 3D measurements for seeds (Bejo); this includes physics

Case 2: Super pan-genome infrastructure for seeds (Bejo)
