It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Andreea Stan, a second year PhD Candidate in the group of Christophe Danelon (Bionanoscience, Delft University of Technology). This sad news has come as a shock to all of us. According to Christophe, Andreea was a passionate and talented scientist. She was awarded a Casimir-NanoFront PhD position in 2021 and a Casimir PhD travel grant in 2023, for which she would study to control evolutionary trajectories by alternating selection pressures in France for four weeks. During her PhD, she made an important contribution to the field of synthetic cell research by developing a platform for the continuous evolution of a self-replicating DNA.
As from Thursday 16 March, there will be a memorial site in Building 58 (Delft), at the main entrance on the parking garage side. Everyone is welcome to leave a message in the book of condolence in commemoration of Andreea.
