TopTalent grant for Reinier Heeres

On Wednesday 3 September, a group of 48 excellent students will receive their TopTalent grants. These grants enable the prospective scientists to shape their creative research ideas into doctoral research. Reinier Heeres is to receive a grant for his doctoral research at the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience.

Reinier Heeres will study for his PhD under Professor Leo Kouwenhoven on the topic of ‘Plasmonics as the interconnection between solid state quantum systems and quantum optics’.

TopTalent is an initiative designed to make studying for a doctorate more attractive. The prestigious programme allows talented young creative students extra freedom to determine their own PhD research programme. TopTalent was founded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) in conjunction with the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU). Two rounds have been held so far: one in 2007 and one in 2008. Grants are available up to a maximum of EUR 180,000.
