Spherical mosaics of various tiles
In order to cover a sphere with tiles, a second type of tile, a so-called ‘defect’ tile, is needed. These tiles are important for understanding the mechanical traits of the protein shell of a virus, for example. Daniela Kraft (LION, CM) received a NWO-Veni grant, which enables her to study the defects and mechanical traits of mosaics of various types of tiles.
